Jayatv Concerts

Jaya Tv Margazhi Maha Utsavam

This music festival is a wonderful oppurtunity for all music lovers. Firstly it is a free event! Secondly, to telecast it, is a way for rasikas to enjoy an hour of music. Rasikas in all parts of India have been delighted to experience this musical extravaganza for yet another year, But this year we music lovers in USA also love this evening show!

Ofcourse it is not a complete concert experience. An hour of selected songs, with commercial breaks?

This is not satisfying at all! hopefully someday we will have a channel exclusively for carnatic music!

******************

Here is a brief info of some concerts being telecast on Jaya tv.

The first concert on Dec 16th was by artists – Malladi Brothers (I missed this one, but will post details soon).

The second concert was by Priya Sisters.

Dec 17th Vocal concert Priya Sisters

Theme – Hariyum Haranum (compositions in praise of Lord Siva & Lord Vishnu)

Highlights:

>Navasidhdhi petraalum – Kharaharapriya raagam – Khanda chaapu

>Malai meedu vaazhum – Sivaranjani – Adhi

The one hour concert was good. Older sister Shanmukhapriya’s voice was not co-operative at a few places. Haripriya’s rendering of the viruttham in Shanmukhapriya raagam was very good.

There was a lot of audio (contorted voice) disturbances…..it could also be a problem with the telecast here (usa).

Chennai Season

17 11 2008

photosession-119

Chennai Music Season……The Carnatic Chennai in December!

The numerous sabhas with endless kutcheris; an array of artists; mind-boggling schedules, the traffic; the sabha canteens’ tempting tiffins, kancheevaram -clad maamis, young children rushing to get autographs….Don’t you miss it?

If you have ever visited Chennai/Madras in December you will understand the above. We are here in the United States, miles away from the festivity, yearning for another chance to be part of it!

I thought it would be great if we can have our own season here. This blog is a humble start, hoping for artists like me to join and perform (add videos) in December.

Here’s how this will work: IF

1. You are a Carnatic Musician (Vocal or Instrumental).

2. You have a video that you can upload (on Youtube or google or your website,) and give us the link here.

3. You agree for other artists to view your videos.

4. You can send a small description of yourself with photograph.

5. You reside in the United States.

So if you can do all these, then one day in December will be all your’s. You will be the featured artist on that date and carnatic fans can view your performance.

I am hoping to have a lot of enthusiastic response to this. If it doesn’t happen, don’t worry! This is just a start! Maybe someday, we will have live streaming concerts on this Blog!!

Your videos can be as long as your video site host allows. Youtube allows for about 8 mins per video. You can even have your house concert uploaded onto your website and give us the link here.

I would like (but not necessarily) for these artists to post videos here:

> Those who have very few opportunities

>Those who want to showcase their talents

> Those who don’t have an audience

> Those who want this to be a means of advertising

>Those who want to be part of this exciting season

So please share this information with other musicians. You can email them about the date you will be featured. Ask them to visit this blog frequently in December.

If you are wondering who I am and why I am doing this, check out the link about me.

It will be great if we can keep this professional. Musicians must be atleast 18 years of age!

Please see my FAQ page for more answers. Please email me for anything else.

Also check the Schedules page for info on artists and the dates they are going to be featured.

Let’s start practising  our Nattais and Madhyamavathis.

Hoping to SEE you soon!

Nandini Kambi
